After a couple of days delay I finally go on bord of the Cap Beatrice in Savannah, Oct.4, learning, that I'm the only passenger for the whole voyage!!!!
That means creating my own schedule, containing gym, sodoku, writing, games, sleeping and watching the sea!
The Crew is very nice and the Captain even allowes me to come to the bridge whenever I like!!! He made it possible that I can write E mails to Urs so Urs is my only connection to the world.
Our next port is Cartagena, Columbia. Urs wrote to the CS group there to tell them that I'm on my way. Three people answered. So I finally met one of them, Santiago. We spend an awesome day in the historic towncenter. Later on we met even more couch surfers by chance.
Next we went into the Panama Canal that meant waiting and waiting until we were accompanied from one gate to the other. Since I had a signal for my cell phone, I called Urs and he tried to find me on one of the webcams of the Canal. Unfortunaly it didn't worked out, because there was always a cruiseship in front of us.
It took us a whole day to get through the Canal and late at night we arrived at Balboa the harbour of Panama City , but I took a taxi down town because this would be the last stop before Aukland....
Well, from now on there is the sea and nothing but the sea!!
Oct.14 at 1: 24 h am we passed the Aquator, I was on the bridge, celebrating with the officers. Of cause I had to sacrefy to Neptun too: chocolate and a glas of wine. Later on we had a real ceremony and we were given a certificate.
Oct. 16,there was a fire and a life drill and I was allowed to take part! I even went into the life boat!
At night we had a nice BBQ!!!
Although I was about two weeks without seeing any land, I never felt bored or bad anyhow!!!I just loved my time on bord!!!!
The food was great too, always plenty of vegetables and fruits. Sometimes Ice cream, sometimes a cake.
Going West, ment that we skipped Oct 23. this date didn't exist for us so all you eventualy did on that Satureday it couldn't be, because straight after Friday we had Sunday!!!!! What a strange feeling !!!!
Oct. 26: today we're arriving in Auckland
The first land appeared in the distance!!!
I saw 4 big whales and a lot of dolphins, but they seemed to be smaller than the ones I saw in the Atlantic, the don't play with the vessel and the seemed to eat all the time.
I have fun watching the sea birds, how they let themselves fall out of the sky like a kamikaze into the water, diving after fish, coming up to to the surface again. Then it seems like as if they ate too much but they have their difficulties to start to fly and to gain on hights again. I belive that they first have to digest before they are able to fly proppaly!!!!
I could spent hours watching the wildllife without getting tired!!
From Auckland we even had 4 other passengers on bord – And six horses!!!!
So things become even more lively now! We even played „dog“!!!!
Pauline and Peter, a very nice couple living in the Sydney Area helped me a lot during my stay in Australia. I even was allowed to store my bags at their place!!!
I decided to take my next cargo vessel via Taiwan and China to Hong Kong leaving on Dec. 3. from Sydney...That means I have to apply for a Chinese visa...
well, my first Days in Australia I didn't feel well at all!!! I somehow couldn't feel the „aussie groove“ and I rather think that their „laidbackness“ is an other word for Arrogance!!!!
So I decided to go to Melbourneand I stayed in a hotel, trying to figure out what I wanted to do and to get me back to normal!!!
I went to Tasmania by over night ferry. What a great Idea! I met great people and had an awesome time there! But I didn't realized that the Island is as big as Ireland, before I went there, so I totally underestemated the distances!!!!! I didn't do my homework!!! Reasearch??????? - allways look on the bright side of life....
Back in Melbourne I stayed with great Couchsurfers: Yun-fen and Scott and their dog Angus.
Yun- fen studied in Bonn in Germany a couple of years ago so her german was amazingly present!!! She helped me to apply for the Chinese visa and and we had a Taiwanese – Swiss night having „Zürcher Geschnetzeltes“ and playing „dog“ with some friends.
Right now I'm staying at Leilas house in Canberra. Leila and Craig were exchangees in Iceland 30 years ago. It's a great pleasure, meeting them after such a long time!!!! Beeing this far away from each other, we discovered that there are a lot of things we still have in common!!! And we have to cope with simmilar situations!!¨---And on top of it: Both of our eldest daughters are actresses and wwent through a simmilar development!!!
Craigs wife Sharon is really nice. We went to see a lot of places together!
